UK NPP launches £100,000 project

The United Kingdom branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a project fund to support the party's bid to win seats in constituencies that are not its stronghold in the 2016 general election.

Executive members are, therefore, targeting to raise £100,000 for that purpose, and to achieve that, each member of the executive will be levied £500, while non executive members will contribute £200 each.

Walewale project

The First Vice Chairman of NPP UK, Mr Richard Dombo, announced this when the 2016 Flag bearer of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, met party members at Wood Green in London on Sunday.

Describing the project as the "Walewale project model," Mr Dombo said the party was determined to win seats in constituencies that had traditionally been strongholds of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as target orphaned constituencies.

The event also brought together newly elected parliamentary candidates of the NPP who were members of the UK branch, including the candidates for Bole Bamboi and Subin, Madam Veronica Alele Hemmey and Mr Eugene Boakye Antwi respectively.

Mr Dombo stated that NPP UK was committed to the 2016 campaign for which reason each member of the executive was prepared to commit resources to propel the party to victory in the next election.

Early on, Mr Antwi addressed the gathering and reiterated the party's rejection of the current voters register, which it describes as bloated.

He urged the Electoral Commission (EC) to review the register in order to restore sanity to the electoral process.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Mr Bernard Antwi-Boasiako (aka Chairman Wuntumi), described the leadership qualities of Nana Akufo-Addo as the kind Ghana currently needed.

He said the party's performance in the recent Talensi by-election was commendable in view of the votes it garnered against the President's prediction to poll 20,000 votes, which never happened.

Flag bearer

Nana Akufo-Addo lauded NPP UK for their unflinching support over the years and urged them to do more ahead of the 2016 general election.

He described the NPP UK as the most forward-looking and supportive among the foreign branches and highlighted the need for the other branches abroad to emulate it.

The flag bearer said public service under his leadership would be characterised by efficiency and reiterated his desire to have an independent prosecutor appointed by the public service.

Nana Akufo-Addo dismissed claims that the NPP had a tribal agenda.
