Veep rounds off tour of Upper East
Vice-President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has rounded off his campaign tour of the Upper East Region with visits to traditional authorities, to whom he pledged the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC’s) commitment to run a peaceful campaign ahead of Election 2016.

He said much as the party would embark on a campaign devoid of rancour, it behoved the other parties to do same.
Mr Amissah-Arthur said this when he paid separate visits to the Tindana of Bolgatanga, Ayeta Atona; the Overlord of the Talensi Traditional Area, Tong Raan Kubil-song-naleb-tang, and the Paramount Chief of the Bongo Traditional Area, Bo-Naba Baba Salifu Lemyaarum.
Introducing the NDC parliamentary candidate for Bolgatanga Central, Mr Isaac Adongo, to the Tindana, the Vice-President said the NDC government was committed to supporting the vulnerable and poor in society.
He said the government was determined to bridge the development gap between rural and urban communities.
The Tindana predicted victory for the NDC and underscored the need for the various parties to preserve the peace of the country.
While introducing the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Talensi, Mr B.T. Baba, to the people, the Vice-President implored the chiefs and people to support the candidate who assumed that position through a by-election.
He said Mr Baba needed to be retained to complete what he had started in the area since he won the by-election about a year ago.

The Tong Raan called on politicians to campaign on issues and shun the politics of division and rancour.
He thanked the Vice-President for his visit and wished him well.
The Bongo Palace, which was awash with NDC paraphernalia amid drumming and dancing by party supporters, was the Vice-President’s last port of call where he introduced the party’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Edward Bawah.
The Vice-President asked the teeming party supporters to vote massively for NDC parliamentary candidates to secure a comfortable majority in Parliament.
Paramount chief
Bo-Naba Lemyaarum commended the government for the numerous development projects it had brought to the area.
He mentioned the free distribution of school uniforms and exercise books, the construction of health and educational facilities and the provision of boreholes.
He, however, pleaded with the government to consider giving the district a college of education so that products of the many senior high schools there could continue their education.
He also requested for a new hospital for the district, saying the current hospital was not large enough to accommodate the growing population of the district.
