
Voting underway in Tamale Central NDC Primary
Voting is underway in the Tamale Central Constituency to elect a parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following the passing of the late Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
A total of 1,555 delegates from across the constituency are expected to cast their ballots in the primary, which is being held at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The constituency is made up of 18 electoral areas, with delegates grouped into four polling stations.
The exercise, which began at 9:40am, is being supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC).
Security has also been beefed up to ensure a peaceful and incident-free election.
Twelve aspirants are contesting the parliamentary primary for the Tamale Central Constituency by-election. They comprise nine men and three women.
The aspirants are Abdul Hanan Abdul Rahaman Gundadoo, former Mayor of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly; Seidu Mohammed, Principal Research Assistant at UDS; Mariama Naama Salifu, a diplomat; and Dr Rahman Abdul Rashid.
The rest are Dr Aliu Abdul Hamid, a civil engineer; Prof. Razak Abubakari, Senior Lecturer at Tamale Technical University; Alhaji Alhassan Nbalba, former Chairman of the NDC-UK/Ireland Chapter; and Prof. Alidu Seidu, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana.
The others are Hajia Muliaka Sualisu; Sadat Harun Alhassan, a lawyer; Alhassan Osman Gomda, an entrepreneur; and Hajia Shamima Yakubu, Northern Regional Treasurer.
