We’ll take decision to seek legal redress after audit — NDC

The National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Sammy Gyamfi, has said the party will take a decision on seeking legal redress on the declaration of the December 7 election results only after completing its audit of all the pink sheets in the various constituencies.

According to him, going to court was not the only legal option available to the party under the Constitution.

“There are so many options available to the party and the leadership of the party will take a decision on going to court after the current audit going on,” Mr Gyamfi said at a press conference in Accra yesterday.

“We have absolutely every right to embark on these protests without prejudice to the other options available to us as a party,” he said

Auditing

Mr Gyamfi noted that the party would officially communicate its intentions to the media after the audit.

He further reiterated the party’s position to reject the results declared by the Electoral Commission (EC), alleging that the true verdict of the electorate had been stolen for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Evidence

In what he described as four incontrovertible pieces of evidence gathered by the NDC, he said there was widespread of cases of padding of votes for the NPP and its presidential candidate and “strange cases” of over-voting in many constituencies.

Mr Gyamfi said the absence of voters verified manually or electronically on the faces of over 10,000 pink sheets and patent mathematical flaws in the results declared by the EC were enough grounds to reject the results declared by the EC.

“All objective minds should have joined us to reject these results from the onset,” he said.

Over-voting

Mr Gyamfi said the EC also failed to provide space for presiding officers to record the number of voters who went through the manual and biometric verification before voting.

That, he said, was a major disaster for the “strange” cases of over-voting recorded in the constituencies.

He said the party had notified the EC about the situation prior to the election but nothing was done about it.

“Even after notifying the EC about the anomaly, they apologised and promised that they were going to rectify it but they went behind our back to distribute the pink sheets to the constituencies without rectifying it,” he said.

He said the party was taking steps to get the EC to recount the votes cast in the Zabzugu Constituency in the Northern Region and the Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region.
