Dogboe fights Filipino Aug 5

WBO African Featherweight champion Isaac Dogboe will resume his quest for a world  title on August 5 when he faces off with Filipino brawler Eden Sonsona in San Diego, USA.

The talented 21-year-old boxer made the disclosure last Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on former President Jerry John Rawlings at his residence in Accra.

Dogboe (14wins - 9 KO’s) made the second defence of his WBO belt with a sixth round KO over Ugandan braggart Kakembo on June 18 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

His father and trainer, Paul Dogboe, who accompanied the young boxer on the visit, said he was hopeful that victory against Sonsona would place his son within one fight away from a world title shot.

Sonsona, 28, is more experienced than his undefeated Ghanaian opponent, having won 34 fights, lost six and drawn two of his professional bouts.

The Filipino southpaw also holds the WBC International Silver super featherweight title and at five feet, five inches boasts a three inch reach advantage over the diminutive Dogboe.

Dogbe is expected to undergo an intensive four-week training camp in preparation for the fight whch will be his 15th outing since turning professional in August 2013.
