Don’t force Powers to fight —Trainer
Veteran boxing trainer, Abdul Rasheed Williams, alias “Believer”, who is preparing Ayittey Powers ahead of his “Judgement Night” fight with Bukom Banku, had conceded that his boxer should have consulted his spiritual father before agreeing to fight on April 18.
Williams, who will lead Powers into the ring on the rescheduled date of May 16, told the Daily Graphic that Powers erred by failing to consulted his spiritual father on the suitability of the date before agreeing to fight in the cruisierweight non-title bout at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“But the fact is that, my boy signed to fight Bukom Banku on April 25 before it was brought forward to April 18, so Ghanaians should appreciate why Powers decided to change the date of the bout,” Williams said.
Last Monday, the Ghana Boxing Authority announced that the two boxers would step into the ring on May 16, following an earlier decision by Powers to withdraw from the April 18 fight, claiming it was a decision taken after he had consulted his spiritual father.
