Mensah battle-ready for big bout in US
Undefeated lightweight contender, Rafael Mensah has intensified peparations ahead of his much-touted bout against American Rod Salka in West Virginia in the United States.
The fight, scheduled for January 27,2017, will see both boxers fighting for the WBA, WBO and IBF world titles.
The 25-year-old Mensah, 28-0, has been hitting mitts, punching bags, and throwing jabs at his training base in Accra.
The Bukom-based boxer last fought Jonathan Yartey in Accra in October, and appears fired up for the task ahead.
He told the Graphic Sports in an interview that he was ready for the tough challenge in the US.
“I am well ahead of him; fought and beaten those he had fought earlier, and ready to knock him out”, he pledged.
His trainer, Ofori Asare, was also full of hope that his ward would win against the American juggernaut.
He said Mensah regarded the challenge as a fight between two determined opponents eager to make a mark at the world stage.
“Rafael is well psyched up for this bout and will kayo Salka . He has gone through a lot of drills under me and is ready for the challenge ahead”, he assured.
Meanwhile, the American Salka, 33, who recently fought Justin Savi- a boxer defeated by Mensah a year ago- is also gearing up for the fight.
Salka, who has lost four, via the short route, has won 23 fights and is aiming to unify the titles.
