GHALCA Top 4 called off
This year’s GHALCA Top 4 tournament has been cancelled, the organisers have confirmed.
The Premier League’s season-opener for the division’s top four club’s was called off yesterday after a meeting by GHALCA executives to deliberate on some critical issues, including sponsorship for the competition.
GHALCA Chairman, Alhaji Ali Raji, told the Daily Graphic that circumstances beyond the control of the organisers compelled them to call off the competition.
Originally scheduled for September 1-22, the competition already faced fixture challenges in a congested domestic calendar following a directive by football’s world governing body, FIFA, that all national leagues must end by May 18, 2014 to make room for a month-long mandatory rest period for players before the commencement of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
It is the second year running that the competition has been cancelled. Last year GHALCA called of the tournament, citing its closeness to the 2012/2013 commencement of the season, among other reasons.
