It’s Fabulous V Police final in Sanford Women’s FA Cup

Police Ladies and Fabulous Ladies will meet in the final of the maiden edition of the Sanford Women’s FA Cup to be played on September 24, after they both cruised to victories  in their semi-final matches over the weekend.

Fabulous Ladies edged out Ampem Darkoa Ladies 3-2 on penalties after playing to a 2-2 game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi last Saturday, while Police Ladies also edged out Immigration 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw game in regulation time at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park yesterday.

Both matches, tipped to be keenly contested, lived up to expecation as the competing sides showed determination and grit to protect their goals with the losing sides done in by their poor penalty-taking.

In Kumasi, it was a game Ampem Darkoa should have won.  they, however, succumbed after taking the lead through Princella Adubea before Alice Kusi equalised for Fabulous. Kusi then shot Fabulous into the lead but Adubea again handed  the Techiman-based team a lifeline with her second goal for the day. From then, they dictated the pace, creating some decent changes, but failed to nail those chances, allowing goalkeeper Memunatu Suleman to use her experience to send her side through in the penalty shoot-outs with her brave saves.

Yesterday Police took the lead with a goal from Faiza Ibrahim but some lousy defending and poor anticipation from goalkeeper Nana Ama Asantewaa helped Gifty Acheampong to slot in a goal for Immigration Ladies but lost out eventually in the penalty shoot-out.

The final clash set for Cape Coast will be the first time the two sides will  face off since the inception of women’s football.
