Jeffrey Schlupp on the brink of contract signing

Jeffrey Schlupp is expected to sign a new contract at Leicester City on Monday, with the Ghana international set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

The Black Star has been heavily linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium this summer following his superb performances in the Premier League last term.

Arsenal are believed to be keen on the 22-year-old, while the likes of Aston Villa and Swansea City have both also been linked with a move for the left-sider.

All three clubs look to be set to miss out on the international, however, with Sky Sports claiming that Schlupp will meet with Leicester officials on Monday to add the finishing touches to a new long-term contract.

The defender only signed a new contract with the club last summer, but such is his increased standing within the Foxes squad, that Nigel Pearson is clearly keen to keep the versatile star at the club, and is willing to shell out to secure Schlupp’s future.

The former Manchester United trialist featured 32 times in the Premier League last season, contributing two assists and scoring three goals for the East Midlands outfit.

He impressed with both his improving defensive consistency and his frequent offensive forays down the left flank, and was rewarded with both the club’s Young Player of the Year award and the Players’ Player of the Year award.

Pearson’s outfit appeared destined for the drop last term after enduring a disastrous slump between the end of September and the end of December, a dire period in which they picked up only two points.

However, they pulled clear after a remarkable run at the end of the campaign, and ended the year in 14th place, six points ahead of the relegation zone.
