Kotoko overpower Ashgold to qualify for MTN/FA Cup semis

Foso-based class One referee, Prince Amoah, gave Ashgold a raw deal as defending MTN FA Cup champions, Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat the 10-man ‘Score miners’ side 2-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to qualify for the semi- finals of the competition.

He gifted Kotoko with a 40th minute doubtful goal, a gesture that was difficult to understand on a day angry Kotoko fans had thronged the stadium to vent their spleen on the team after last Sunday's 1-3 loss to Liberty Professionals at Dansoman.

The miners’ goalkeeper appeared to have been fouled on the goal line by the scorer, Owusu Jackson, in an aerial tussle but the referee ignored an appeal for an infringement as Jackson connected Abeiku Ainooson's header.

A minute later the visitors’ livewire Osei Baffour was sent off and from then on the Obuasi side could not get their acts together.

Kotoko took advantage of the drama and assumed full charge of the game as their fans applauded every move by the Porcupine Warriors.
Atta Kusi scored a great goal from a distance when he latched onto a rebound to deliver a pile driver in the 60th minute to secure a semifinal berth for Kotoko.
