MTN FA Cup final, Women’s League decider for Cape Coast
The Ghana Football Assocaition (GFA) has announced that this year’s final match to declare the National Women’s League (NWL) champions for this season will be played at the Cape Coast Stadium as a prelude to the MTN FA Cup final on August 29.
This follows a proposal from the Women’s League Board (WLB), organisers of the women’s league, which was approved by the MTN FA Cup Committee and endorsed by the Executive Committee of the GFA at its meeting last Thursday.
President Kwesi Nyantakyi, who announced this at the NWL stakeholders meeting also held last Thursday, said the approval was a further demonstration of the FA’s commitment to promoting women’s football in the country.
“We are proud to say that this year’s final of the NWL will be the first match to be played in the double header of two finals at the Cape Coast Stadium on August 29. The second match will be the MTN FA Cup final.
“We hope this will give the women’s final match a bigger stage to showcase to the world how enthralling the women’s game has become and sell its brand to a far bigger audience.”
At the same meeting, Mr Nyantakyi also announced that each of the 16 participating clubs would receive GH¢5,000 as support to cushion them in the league as the FA made efforts to secure sponsorship.
The second round of this season’s league resumes this weekend.
