The annual National Para Sports Festival which is organised by National Paralympic Committee (NPC) in collaboration with the Dan-deVan Group of Companies, is slated for November 29 at the Accra Stadium.

The event which is dubbed the “Dan-deVan National Paralympic Festival” will see athletes participate in a top-6 wheelchair tennis competition, a wheelchair basketball game involving two teams from Accra and Sunyani, 15km wheelchair race, and a 15km hand cycling race.

Daniel Mensah, the chairman of the Dan-deVan Group of Companies, explained that the decision to partner with the NPC was to honour para sports athletes who excelled during the course of the year.

CAF Champions League winners, TP Mazembe, yesterday walloped Ghana’s Dream Team 3-1 to win the 2015 Mo Ibrahim Governance Cup in a game which was halted by poor lighting at the Accra Stadium.

The new vice president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) George Kwasi Afriyie, says his position is not only reward for hardwork and loyalty to Ghana football, but also a big challenge to help take the sport to a higher level.

Afriyie replaces former vice president, Fred Crentsil, who was unable to retain his seat on the recently held Executive Committee (ExCo) elections.

And as he warms himself into the new position, having been elevated from being  a member of the Emergency Committee (EmCo) of the GFA, Afriyie aims at building a healthier relationship with the media to help tell the GFA story better and erase all doubts and negative perceptions about the association in the minds of Ghanaians and football lovers.

Newly-crowned African champions TP Mazembe will battle some of the finest players in the domestic league for the inaugural Mo Ibrahim Foundation Governance Cup at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.

The international friendly has been put together by Primeval Media, in collaboration with the Government of Ghana and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, and will offer a  select-side, known as the Dream Team.

This will comprise of top players in Ghana’s Premier League and Division One League, a platform to pit their strength with the reigning CAF Champions League winners, who will parade five Ghanaian players — Solomon Asante, Richard Kissi Boateng, Gladson Awako, Yaw Frimpong and Daniel Nii Adjei.

Black Stars players and technical handlers received an amount of $10,000 each from the Ministry of Youth and Sports as payment of their outstanding bonus for the Ghana-Rwanda World Cup qualifier.

However, the winning bonus for their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the return leg World Cup qualifier last Tuesday remains outstanding, the Graphic Sports has learnt.

The quest to feature for football clubs in Europe and other parts of the world has prevented Aduana Stars right-back, Godfred Saka, from signing for either Accra Hearts of Oak or Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to Saka, he was rather focused on working hard with Aduana with the view of gaining much experience to land a lucrative contract abroad.

A seminar designed to educate parents and guardians with children of intellectual disabilities to appreciate the essence of supporting their children who have interest in sports will take place at the Dzorwulu Special School in Accra tomorrow.

About 100 parents and guardians from Accra and its environs will participate in the seminar which also seeks to educate the participants on the health needs of their wards with the view of keeping them active.

George Afriyie has been named the vice-president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) at a the meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCo) yesterday.

The president of the GFA, Kwesi Nyantakyi, named Afriyie as the vice-president for a four-year term at the first meeting of the newly-formed Executive Committee to discuss the direction of Ghana football for the next four years.

He takes over from Fred Crentsil, who lost out at the recent ExCo elections on the ticket of Techiman City.
