The Porcupine Warriors yesterday put the smiles back on the faces of their supporters when they pipped their regional rivals,  Obuasi AshGold, 1-0 to lift this year’s SIC Nyemitei SWAG Cup.

The victory ended the Aboakese boys dominance over the Oseikrom boys in recent times, earning the Kumasi lads the bragging rights for the moment.

Jessica, Ziga to defend titles at Coca-Cola golf

Defending champions, Jessica Tei and Raymond Zigah, will defend their Coca-Cola Family Day golf titles when the competition tees-off on Saturday at the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono.

Last year, Zigah picked the winner’s trophy after recording a net score of 62, while Jessica finished first in the ladies event with a score of 70.

The defending champions will, however, not have it as easy on Saturday as they face a potentially stiff challenge from an estimated 120 other golfers who are expected to participate in the tournament.

Accra Hearts of Oak have held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Accra with Board Chairman, Togbe Afede XIV, painting an unimpressive picture about the club’s finances and stating also that he was ready to trade off his stake in the club as majority shareholder.

The investment banker revealed that the club’s current assets stood at GH¢186,597 and indicated that the club had not earned money from the transfer of players since the Phobians sold striker Mahatma Otoo to Norwegian club, Sogndal, three seasons ago.

National Para Sports Festival opens November 29

The annual National Para Sports Festival which is organised by National Paralympic Committee (NPC) in collaboration with the Dan-deVan Group of Companies, is slated for November 29 at the Accra Stadium.

The event which is dubbed the “Dan-deVan National Paralympic Festival” will see athletes participate in a top-6 wheelchair tennis competition, a wheelchair basketball game involving two teams from Accra and Sunyani, 15km wheelchair race, and a 15km hand cycling race.

Daniel Mensah, the chairman of the Dan-deVan Group of Companies, explained that the decision to partner with the NPC was to honour para sports athletes who excelled during the course of the year.

TP Mazembe lift Mo Ibrahim Governance Cup

CAF Champions League winners, TP Mazembe, yesterday walloped Ghana’s Dream Team 3-1 to win the 2015 Mo Ibrahim Governance Cup in a game which was halted by poor lighting at the Accra Stadium.

The match, which climaxed the 2015 Mo Ibrahim Annual Governance Week, saw TP Mazembe dominating right from kick-off.

QTP Mazembe, Dream Team clash in African Unity Cup

Newly-crowned African champions TP Mazembe will battle some of the finest players in the domestic league for the inaugural Mo Ibrahim Foundation Governance Cup at the Accra Stadium on Sunday.

The international friendly has been put together by Primeval Media, in collaboration with the Government of Ghana and the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, and will offer a  select-side, known as the Dream Team.

This will comprise of top players in Ghana’s Premier League and Division One League, a platform to pit their strength with the reigning CAF Champions League winners, who will parade five Ghanaian players — Solomon Asante, Richard Kissi Boateng, Gladson Awako, Yaw Frimpong and Daniel Nii Adjei.

Stars pocket $10,000 each

Black Stars players and technical handlers received an amount of $10,000 each from the Ministry of Youth and Sports as payment of their outstanding bonus for the Ghana-Rwanda World Cup qualifier.

However, the winning bonus for their 2-0 victory over Comoros in the return leg World Cup qualifier last Tuesday remains outstanding, the Graphic Sports has learnt.

The amount of money to be paid as winning bonus has remained a thorny issue in recent monts with the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr Mustapha Ahmed dropping the hint last week that the bonus could be reduced to $5,000 as the country’s economic challenges would not permit the government to maintain the current bonus of $10,000.

Ghana’s Black Stars and 19 other African teams will be waiting anxiously for the crucial and final round of qualifying matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, after easing past the knockout stage into the group qualifiers.

British sculptor and former athlete, Donald Brown, is in Ghana to spearhead a global peace initiative, using sports and arts as tools to promote the project.

The 2011 European Masters 60-metre indoor champion has created a painting titled “A Sporting Chance for Peace” with which he is touring the world to present to leaders and citizens of various countries aimed at promoting global peace.
