The rise and rise of Boakye-Yiadom

At 24, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom is finally demonstrating that he can be one of the Black Stars' footballing superstars, and not the latest in the long line of unfulfilled Ghanaian talents.

The powerful frontman is scoring for fun at Red Star Belgrade, and has firmly emerged as the leading contender to be Asamoah Gyan's long-term successor with the national side.

Improved wages can cure player migration — Malik

Ex-Black Stars player Malik Jabir has attributed the recent mass exodus of Ghanaian players to the meagre salaries they receive and charged club owners to improve the salaries of players. 

However, he notedimprovement in wages and general working conditions of the players would reduce the migration of players to foreign leagues and help in improve the league.

No deal with Mayniak Sportswear yet — Ashgold CEO

The Chief Executive of Ashgold, Kudjoe Fianoo, says the club has yet to finalise a deal with sportswear firm, Mayniak Sportswear, to become their official Kit Sponsors next season even though Mayniak has already gone ahead to announce the deal on their official Twitter handle. 

Explaining, Mr Fianoo said, the Ashgold management was still discussing the design and colours with Mayniak, after which he would present the contract proposal to the club’s board for their approval.

Tennis: Agyare, Lawrencia win Donyma tourney

Two tennis budding talents, Eric Agyare Asante and Lawrecia, brought fans onto their feet with some unblemished display of tennis prowess winning their respective male and female final in the annual Donyma 4 Garrison Amateurs Singles Tennis competition at the 4 Garrison court in Kumasi on Farmers Day.

Both players took advantage of their one-sided dominance to lift the ultimate trophy and some souvenirs from the company which manufactures and deals with roofing sheets and other steel materials.

Black Cranes present medals to sponsors

Members of the national weightlifting team, Black Cranes, paid a courtesy visit to De United Foods Industries Ltd (DUFIL), the brand owners of Indomie, to showcase medals that the team won from two separate tournaments.

Indomie has been a major supporter of weightlifting in Ghana, sponsoring both the activities of the Black Cranes as well as grooming of young weightlifters.

The Board of Directors of Accra Hearts of Oak are making frantic efforts to defuse growing agitation among the club’s supporters front after the National Chapters Committee (NCC), the umbrella body of Phobian supporters, gave the board chairman and majority shareholder, Togbe Afede XIV, a seven-day ultimatum to convene an emergency stakeholders meeting to arrest the failing fortunes of the club.

Minister assures Dogboe of govt’s support

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Isaac Asiamah, says his outfit is ready to support undefeated Isaac Dogboe in his upcoming WBO Interim Super Bantamweight title fight against Mexico's Caesar Juarez in Accra on Januray 6.
