Thompson wins, Kendricks edges rivals at Paris meet

Jamaica's Elaine Thompson, the reigning double Olympic sprint champion, put on the afterburners in the final 20 metres to rack up a convincing victory at Saturday's Diamond League meet in Paris.

Thompson clocked 10.91 seconds to finish ahead of Ivorian Marie-Josee Ta Lou (10.96sec), with Nigerian Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor claiming third (11.09).

Novak Djokovic proved his form for Wimbledon by beating Gael Monfils 6-3 6-4 to win the Aegon International.

President’s Cup rained-off

This year's President Cup match between rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak to honour the sitting President and also to cleberate Ghana's 57 years as a Republican state was rained off at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi yesterday after 65 minutes of play.

The match is to be replayed on ......, according to GHALCA, organisers of the annual match.

Black Stars’ preparation was chaotic — Gyan

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan feels the Black Star's chaotic preparations for their international friendly against the USA negatively affected them as Ghana lost 1-2 to Bruce arena’s side at Pratt and Whitney Stadium at East Hartford’s East Hartford’s Rentschler Field.

Gyan, a veteran of two previous meetings with the USA in the FIFA World Cup, claimed the game in Connecticut was “more than a friendly” but Ghana's preparations had not reflected that.

GH₵ 20,000 up for grabs in Cowbell Cycling Challenge

There will be a total of GH₵ 20,000 in cash prizes and products at stake on Monday when 100 cyclists converge at the Independence Square in Accra to compete for honours in the 2017 Cowbell Cycling Challenge.

Stars upbeat about US clash

Ghana’s Black Stars will end their US tour tomorrow, hoping to return home with a win over old foes USA when they clash at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium in Connecticut.

After their convincing 5-0 thrashing of Ethiopia in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier earlier this month, the Stars unfortunately lost 0-1 to Mexico at the NRG Stadium in Houston last Wednesday night after John Boye had gifted the Mexicans a penalty in the 32nd minute.
