A journey well-travelled

Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan is now the country’s all-time leading top scorer similarly, the 32-year-old remains one of the few Ghanaian players whose career journey has taken him on tour across Europe and Asia.

During the week, the player who has strike 51 times for the national team, sealed a two-year deal with Turkish side, Kayserispor, to make it his eighth club in his career.

Ex-Japan track star in Ghana to rally support for 2020 Olympics

Former Japanese track athlete, Dai Tamasue arrived in Ghana yesterday to begin a four-day mission to promote the 2020 Summer Olympic and Paralympics Games slated for Tokyo.

On arrival Tamasue said he was delighted to be in the country and was looking forward to promoting the charm of Japan, particularly the culture, value and ethic of sports.

‘Rahman must break into Chelsea team’

Chelsea legend, Geremi Njitap, says Ghanaian international, Baba Rahman, must prove his worth to break into Antonio Conte's set-up in the upcoming Premier League season.

Njitap, who played for Cameroun and Chelsea from 2003 to 2007, urged Rahman to work harder to break into the strong Chelsea team since that is the responsibility of every player.

Rahman joined Chelsea from German side, Augsburg, for £14 million in 2015 but failed to break into the first team after making just 15 appearances for the club.

Former Black Stars midfielder, Yusif Chibsah, has announced his retirement from football to focus on his duties with the Professional Football Association of Ghana (PFAG).

Footballers in Africa underpaid — FIFPro

The renumeration of footballers in Africa is nothing compared to the efforts they put in to make the game on the continent thrive, FIFPro, the International Players Union, the professional body that oversees the interest of international footballers, have observed.

According to FIFPro, 41 per cent of African footballers receive their salaries late or are not paid at all, a conclusion reached after a study on the issue.

Forty-one percent of African footballers receive their salaries late or are not paid at all, a study conducted by the international players union, FIFPro has revealed.

According to the Secretary General of the international players union, FIFPro, Mr Theo van Seggelen, a labour market research of 14,000 players in 54 African countries found that 41% of football professionals do not get a salary and 45% earn less than $1,000 a month.

Asamoah Gyan signs for Turkey's Kayserispor

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has signed a two-year deal with Turkish club Kayserispor.

He joins from the Chinese side Shanghai SIGP, who had loaned him to Al Ahli in the United Arab Emirates last season.

Akuffo wins Cowbell Cycling Challenge

 

Teenage cycling sensation, Frank Akuffo, made a sprint finish to clinch the 84-kilometre Cowbell Cycling Challenge held last Monday in Accra.

Akuffo, 19, along with his Velo Stars teammate Isaac Sackey, led a pack of 98 riders, but the younger cyclist crossed the finish line first at Teshie Mobil in a time of one hour, 57 minutes and 23 seconds.

VRA Tennis Club supports Maj Mahama’s family

 

Members of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Tennis Club have donated a GH¢10,000 to Mrs Barbara Mahama, wife of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama, to support the education of her two sons, Jayden and Jerry Mahama.

A dummy cheque for the amount, which is invested at the CDH Savings and Loans Limited, was presented to Mrs Mahama last Saturday at the VRA Tennis Club at Akosombo during a special tennis tournament organised in honour of the late soldier.
