Newly crowned Nigerian-born British world heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua has set the records straight regarding his nationality saying he is a "Nigerian man by blood".

Joshua, 27, added the WBA and IBO heavyweight straps to the IBF heavyweight title on Saturday after an 11th round stoppage of Wladimir Klitschko.

Norvor appeals to govt for land - To build sports complex

Former national handball captain and Founder of Town Council Line volleyball team, Patrick Norvor, has appealed to the state for a parcel of land to construct a multi-purpose sports complex to engage the youth in sporting activities as a form of sustenance and recreation.

Mr Norvor, who is also an ace volleyball player, needs an urgent help from the state and stakeholders in sports to help him acquire a free piece of land to construct the sporting facility out of his own resources.

Accra Hearts of Oak will send a two-goal cushion into the second-leg of the Ghana: 60 Years On President's Cup after two howlers by young goalie Felix Annan handed them a deserved 3-1 victory over rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The victory, Hearts second over Kotoko this year after a 1-0 win in the league would be a day to forget for Kotoko fans who braved the rains to watch the game and Annan, who was at fault for two of the goals.

Top seed Thomas Setodji won his maiden McDan West African Open Championship men's trophy while Sarah Adegoke successfully defended the women's title to complete a clean sweep for foreign tennis players on Saturday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Sarah Adegoke and Thomas Setodji last Saturday justified their reputation as the top-ranked players by claiming the top honours in the men's and women's divisions respectively of the McDan West African Open Championship at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Togolese debutant Setodji posted an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory over his Beninois counterpart, Felix Hounkpevi, to win the all-Francophone men's final, while defending women's champion Adegoke defeated youngster Angel McCleod 6-4, 6-3 in an all-Nigerian final.

I’ll make badminton vibrant and attractive — GBF president

The new president of the Ghana Badminton Federation (GBF), Mr Evans Yeboah, says he would intensify a drive to get more people to participate in the sport, organise regional and national badminton tournaments and make badminton a national pastime.

He also pledged to provide a permanent place for competitions and the construction of satellite badminton courts across the country.

The Ghana Rugby Football Union senior men’s team, Black Eagles, yesterday defeated their Beninois counterparts 46 -5 in the first match of the Rugby Africa Regional Challenge Group West 1, held at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Team Ghana began with a winning intent in the first half when dangerman fullback Yusif Jalilu scored two tries to give the Ghanaians 29 points to five points in the half.
