13th Africa Games organizers seek support at Takoradi Westside Carnival
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the 13th Africa Games made a significant impact during the 2023 Westside Carnival on Tuesday, December 26, in Takoradi, as part of their ongoing campaign to garner support and awareness for the upcoming continental event.
Amidst the vibrant parade featuring over 30 masquerade groups parading through Takoradi's main streets, the LOC ensured a strong presence among the participants. Carrying placards promoting the 13th African Games slated for Accra next year, the committee collaborated with the carnival organizers to utilize this festive occasion for outreach and mobilization.

Addressing the sizable crowd, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, the Executive Chairman of the LOC, conveyed gratitude to the people of Takoradi for warmly embracing the African Games. He revealed plans to incorporate some of the participating groups in the opening and closing ceremonies of the event.
Dr. Ofosu-Asare stressed the importance of nationwide involvement in the Games, emphasizing that although the Games would be hosted in Accra, active participation from Ghanaians across the country was crucial.
"The African Games is the biggest sports festival on the continent, and there is a need for Ghanaians to get themselves ready. The people of Ghana must be ready to host the rest of the continent. Businesses must be ready to embrace the opportunities that come with hosting and organizing the games," he added.
A day prior, on Monday, December 25, in collaboration with Tumus masqueraders, the LOC organized a float through Takoradi's principal streets to further raise awareness about the Games. The masqueraders, accompanied by flyers and banners, contributed to the promotion of the 13th edition of the African Games in Takoradi.
The continental celebration is scheduled to unfold from Friday, March 8, 2024, to Saturday, March 23, 2024.
