16-Man LOC inaugurated for GUSA Games
The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, last Tuesday inaugurated a 16-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) with the responsibility of planning and executing events and activities for the Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) Games to be held in January next year.
Mr Nyantakyi inaugurated the committee during the official launch ceremony which was held at the University for Development Studies’ (UDS) International Conference Centre in Tamale last Tuesday.
The committee will be chaired by Prof. Seidu Al-hassan with Dr A.B.T Zakariah, Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, Ing. Samuel Abiko, John Azure, Prof. Juventus Ziem, Prof. Israel Dzomeku, Dr Sylvester Z. Galaa, Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, Saaka Shaibu, Alhassan Baako, Ayuba Ibrahim, Jackson Awuni Abani, Michael Akanzaawie, SRC President and SRC Sports chairperson being members.
Inaugurating the committee, Mr Nyantakyi, lauded the initiative by the University of Ghana to introduce sports related programmes and urged UDS to do same and pledged his unflinching support for university sports in general.
He, however, entreated UDS to seize the opportunity as hosts of the games to garner more trophies and eventually emerge as the overall winner of the competition.
For his part, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UDS and chairman of the LOC, Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan, observed that education and sports were inseparable and that the latter had proved to be a very effective tool for developing, uniting, and inspiring people.
He expressed satisfaction with Management’s efforts towards developing sports in UDS, noting that the establishment of a sports directorate and the subsequent appointment of a Director of sports demonstrated a commitment on the part of Management.
