The streets of Kumasi will once again be awash with pink and white as Breast Care International (BCI) prepares to host the 2025 edition of Ghana’s largest breast cancer awareness event — the BCI Ghana Walk for the Cure.
Scheduled for Saturday, October 4, 2025, this year’s walk is expected to be the most impactful yet, with over 30,000 participants anticipated from across Ghana and beyond.
The day-long event will commence at the Adum Post Office in Kumasi, with participants walking through some principal streets before converging on the Manhyia Durbar Grounds. It will be held on the theme: “BCI Ghana Walk for the Cure 2025 – A Cure Worth Fighting For.”
This year’s walk also marks a significant rebranding of BCI, after more than 23 years of tireless dedication to women’s health in Ghana, across Africa, and globally. The refreshed brand identity reflects BCI’s growth, bold vision, and renewed commitment to leading the fight against breast cancer.
Launching the event in Kumasi on Friday, September 5, 2025, Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, Founder and President of BCI, stressed that breast cancer should not be seen as just a personal battle for women but a societal and developmental challenge requiring collective effort.
“The walk serves as both a call to action and a celebration of survivors, while we also honour the memory of those lives lost to the disease,” she said.
She explained that over the years, BCI’s life-saving work had reached thousands through free breast cancer screenings, educational programmes, and early detection initiatives.
The event will bring together survivors, opinion leaders, traditional leaders, government officials, healthcare professionals, families, students, and communities in one united mission — to defeat breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual campaign that raises awareness of the disease. Each year, individuals, businesses, and communities across the globe come together to show support for people affected by breast cancer.
