Korle Bu assures public of reliable laboratory results amid internal dispute

The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) has assured the public that all laboratory results produced by the hospital’s Central Laboratory remain accurate, credible and reliable despite recent controversies surrounding the facility.

According to the hospital, the Central Laboratory remains one of the most advanced and best-equipped medical laboratories in Ghana and the wider West African sub-region, operating with internationally recognised standards and highly trained professionals.

In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, May 7, 2026, management said the clarification had become necessary following what it described as misleading reports in sections of the media questioning the quality and dependability of laboratory results generated by the facility.

The hospital stressed that the Central Laboratory is internationally accredited under ISO 15189:2022, a globally recognised standard for medical laboratories, which certifies its competence in delivering quality diagnostic services.

Management noted that the laboratory continues to play a critical role not only in patient diagnosis and treatment, but also in the training of laboratory scientists for health institutions across the country.

Public assured of accurate diagnostic services

“Given its standards, accreditation and track record, management assures all and sundry that the results generated by the laboratory are valid and reliable,” the statement said.

It further assured patients and the general public of the integrity of services being provided by the facility, adding that there was no cause for concern regarding the quality of laboratory testing at the hospital.

The statement added that KBTH remained committed to strengthening the role of the Central Laboratory in clinical care, diagnostics and medical education.

Management also reaffirmed its resolve to continue investing in modern infrastructure, equipment and professional capacity to ensure the delivery of accurate and timely laboratory services.
