2026 WAFCON Qualifiers: Black Queens overpower Egypt in Ismailia

Ghana’s Black Queens produced a commanding performance to defeat Egypt 3–0 in the first leg of their 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier on Thursday, October 23, in Ismailia.

Facing an attractive yet fragile Egyptian side, Ghana controlled proceedings from start to finish, earning a deserved victory that sets a confident tone ahead of the second leg in Accra on Tuesday, October 28.

Doris Boaduwaa broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute, rewarding Ghana’s dominance in the first half.

The ZFK Spartak Subotica forward met a precise right-wing cross with a first-time finish that left the Egyptian goalkeeper rooted to the spot.

After the break, the Black Queens displayed composure and tactical maturity—absorbing pressure before striking late to seal the win.

Mavis Amponsah doubled Ghana’s lead in the 85th minute with a powerful effort from the edge of the box, before Grace Asantewaa capped off the performance in the 90th minute following a neat passing move and clinical finish.

The convincing result places Ghana in an ideal position ahead of the return fixture in Accra. For Egypt, however, it was a sobering defeat.

Despite occasional flashes down the flanks, their cutting edge in the final third was absent and overturning the deficit away from home will demand something extraordinary.
