Aasha Game Club wins Miksi Cards tourney

Aasha Game Club from Teshie last Sunday became the new champions of the Miksi Greater Accra Regional Playing Cards Competition, courtesy a 500-420 win over France 98 at the forecourt of the La Trade Fair.

The two-day contest, organised by Media 2 Concepts and Obonu FM, started last Saturday with 20 teams and attracted a large crowd, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the La-Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA), Rita Odoley Sowah.

At the end of the preliminary round games on the opening day, eight teams advanced to the quarter-finals after France 98 defeated Opetentum, La Dadekotopon beat Ole Ake, Wonders accounted for Green Court and Aasha Game progressed at the expense of Argentina in 1 to 1000 points games.

The semi-finals saw a largely partisan crowd, comprising residents of La, experiencing a heartbreak when France 98 crushed the dreams of the home club, La Dadekotopon, by 1000-740, while Aasha Game saw off Wonders with a 1000-780 scoreline.

The final between France 98 and Aasha Game was a tensed affair, as the first team to score 500 points was to be declared winner as a result of time constraints. However, Aasha Game held their nerves to beat France 98 by 500-420, while Wonders clinched third place with a quick 500-360 win over Dadekotopon.

For their efforts, Aasha Game were presented with GHC 800, products from the sponsor Miksi, Kasapreko Company Limited, certificates of participation, as well as medals and a trophy.

France 98 Club and Wonders, who finished second and third, were presented with GHC600 and GH 400 respectively, as well as trophies, medals, products from the event sponsors and certificates of participation.

In an interview after the event, the CEO of Media 2 Concepts, Steve Bortier, thanked the MCE of LaDMA, Rita Odoley Sowah, for her outfit’s immense support, adding that his next target was to form a national playing cards association.
