Abbey Pobee calls for Stars’ dissolution

A former football administrator, Jonathan Abbey Pobee, has called for the immediate dissolution of the Black Stars, including the technical handlers, pending the proposed enquiry by President John Mahama into the team’s activities at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil.

The Black Stars for the first time exited the World Cup at the group stages, clawing only a point against Germany and losing 1-2 to both the USA and Portugal in one of the worst outings of the team in recent times.

According to Pobee for more than 20 years now, there has been so much disaffection for the Black Stars claiming that about 70 per cent of Ghanaians were against the team.

“I think the team should be dissolved and reassembled at a later date with the inclusion of some new faces from the domestic league so that they can prepare very well for the upcoming African Cup of Nations in 2015.”

Mr Abbey Pobee who was interacting with the Daily Graphic also suggested that Ghana organised itself very well for the 2022 World Cup rather than the World Cup of 2018.

This, according to him, would help save money considering the huge expenses incurred over the years during Ghana’s World Cup campaigns.

On the payment of appearance fees, the former Neoplan Stars chairman indicated that as part of their conduct for tournaments, appearance fees must be stipulated and players who wished to be part of it must be made to sign.
