Abdul-Samad, Quarcoo dominate All Ghana Badminton Open
Top seed, Ahmad Abdul-Samad, delivered a commanding performance to claim a brilliant double, while Rachael Quarcoo reaffirmed her dominance in the women’s game at the 2026 All Ghana Badminton Open Championships, which concluded in style at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra over the weekend.
In a tournament that showcased Ghana’s rising depth in badminton, the two standout performers swept aside all challengers across two action-packed days, leaving no doubt about their status at the summit of the sport.
The event, which attracted 123 players across U15–U19, Schools, Veterans and Seniors categories, was graced by key dignitaries, including the Ghana Olympic Committee President, Richard Akpokavie, the National Sports Authority Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, and a representative of the Minister of Sports and Recreation.
Abdul-Samad shows class
Abdul-Samad lived up to his billing as favourite with ruthless efficiency. He stormed through the men’s singles competition without dropping a single set, winning all four preliminary matches before cruising past the quarter-finals and semi-finals.
In the final, he proved too strong for rival Andy Amofa, sealing a convincing 21-11, 21-17 victory to retain his position as the nation’s top-ranked player.
The top seed then doubled his tally in style, partnering Ebenezer Kwame Korampong to clinch the men’s doubles title. The pair dismantled the field before rounding off their campaign with a 21-15, 21-17 triumph over Leslie Addo and Andy Amofa in the final.
Quarcoo was equally imperious in the women’s events. The top seed dominated the singles competition, winning all three round-robin matches to top Group A before edging Miracle Ofuasia in a tightly contested semi-final.
She then delivered a statement performance in the final, overpowering long-time rival Jennifer Eduam 21-7, 21-10 to underline her supremacy.
Not content with a single title, Quarcoo went on to complete a double, teaming up with Brempong Ofori-Acheampong to win the mixed doubles crown. The duo capped an unbeaten run, without dropping a set before the final, with a 21-19, 21-12 victory over Ruben Tetteh and Jessica Lomotey.
