Accra to host over 50 junior taekwondoists

 

More than 50 schools in Ghana, Togo and Benin have confirmed their participation in the most competitive junior taekwondo championship in the country slated for November 25 to 26 at the D.G. Hathiramani Sports Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium.

Dzorwulu-based Bethany School, ST Banabas of Osu, Tortten, Sesi Taekwondo, WAM Taekwondo and their colleagues from Togo and Benin will join in the two-day competition.

The annual competition, which is in it’s fifth year dubbed the fifth Norlympics Taekwondo Junior Open Championship, is a sparring one which is expected to attract more than 600 taekwondo artistes.

The brain child of ace international taewkondo referee and chairman of Greater Accra Taekowndo Association, Master Norbert Amefu, the competition aims to tap talents for the national cause.

Master Amefu, who is also the president of the Norlympics Taekwondo Academy, organisers of the competition, told the Graphic Sports that in line with convention, veteran taekwondo experts would grace the occasion to mentor the kids and help hone their skills.

The competition is being sponsored by KEPCO, Korean Community in Ghana and Dynasty Group of Companies.

At stake for winners of the various categories of the competition are bicycles, cash prizes and medals.
