Achimota Golf Club hosts Pink Cup for breast cancer awareness

This Saturday, the Achimota Golf Club is set to host the annual Pink Cup tournament, aimed at raising awareness and support for breast cancer.

The event, scheduled between 6:30 and 11 a.m., is anticipated to draw nearly a hundred golfers, each contributing a GHS300 entry fee.

The 18-hole competition is dedicated to bolstering the Breast Cancer Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.

Madam Elizabeth Essel-Koomson, the Lady Captain of Achimota Golf Club, spoke about the origins of the breast cancer awareness initiative: "We’ve always had Breast Cancer Awareness tournaments. Our Late Lady Captain for the year 2010, Nana Bema Tachie, who was a victim of breast cancer, started the awareness of breast cancer on a bigger scale and began giving donations from our tournaments to the Breast Cancer section at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to assist victims who could not afford payments for their treatment. The late Nana Bema Tachie succumbed to Breast Cancer last year."

She continued, "My Past Lady Captain Christine Furler took it up seriously, and we continued to assist victims. My team and I are taking it a notch higher by raising funds during this Global Breast Cancer Awareness month, by playing golf and raising money to buy some needed equipment in addition to supporting some victims."

Madam Essel-Koomson also highlighted the dedication of her team, along with various committee members and sponsors, who are working diligently to ensure the success of the event.

The tournament offers attractive prizes for golfers who distinguish themselves.
