AFCON 2025 Qualifier: Angola ends Ghana's 24-year unbeaten run at Baba Yara with dramatic win

Angola delivered a stunning blow to Ghana’s long-standing dominance at the Baba Yara Stadium, ending the Black Stars' 24-year unbeaten home record with a 1-0 victory in tonight's AFCON 2025 qualifier.

Felicio Milson emerged as the hero for Angola, scoring a dramatic 93rd-minute goal that not only secured the win but also shocked the home crowd.

Despite Ghana controlling much of the game, Milson’s late strike from close range after Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin inadvertently cleared the ball into his path sealed the upset.

Ghana, known for their fortress-like defense at Baba Yara, started the match with a high tempo, pressing for an early goal.

However, Angola's resilient defense held firm and both sides went into halftime with the score locked at 0-0.

The second half saw Ghana continue their dominance, but they struggled to find a breakthrough. Angola, meanwhile, grew in confidence, making crucial tactical adjustments and launching counterattacks.

Their persistence paid off in the final moments when Milson capitalized on a defensive lapse to snap Ghana’s unbeaten record.

The victory places Angola in a strong position in their qualifying campaign, while Ghana faces a critical reassessment as they sit in third place with no points in Group F. Angola now shares the top spot with Sudan, who edged Niger 1-0 in their match yesterday.

For Ghana, the result marks a rare home defeat, and they will need to regroup quickly as the road to AFCON 2025 intensifies.

The last time the Black Stars lost at Baba Yara was in February 2000, when they lost to South Africa in the quarter-finals of the AFCON.
