Aguidi wins day for Hearts
Foovi Aguidi became the hero of fans of Accra Hearts of Oak when he powered the relegation-threatened club to defeat Liberty Professionals 1-0 at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman yesterday.
Picking the ball midway into the Liberty half, the Togolese striker beat his marker before firing a bullet shot past on-rushing Daniel Agyei into the side post before dangling into the net to break the deadlock in the 60th minute.

It was an important goal which was greeted with spontaneous wild jubilation by the Hearts supporters who had been given a scare minutes earlier by a determined Liberty side who had threatened to derail the Phobians’ fight against relegation by coming close to scoring.
Midway in the first half, disaster struck Hearts when their goalkeeper, Tetteh Lugard, in an attempt to save a sticky situation in his goal area, got injured and was replaced by Seidu Muntawakilu, after colliding with Liberty’s Michael Appiah.
Both teams threw everything into the game in the first half but neither side was able to hit the back of the net until recess.
The Phobians, who had Turkish coach, Can Vanli, on their technical bench as advisor to caretaker coach Edward Ansah, returned from recess with a lot of vigour. And in one of their attacks on the hour mark, Aguidi picked a loose ball and raced into the Liberty goal area, shrugging off a challenge in the process before firing home the winning goal.
