Akonnor denies assault on ref Bulu
Head coach of AshantiGold, Charles Akonnor, has refuted reports that he attempted to assault referee Charles Bulu during his side’s Week 10 league match at the Tarkwa and Aboso Park last Saturday.
According to the reports, the ex-Ghana international became furious after referee Bulu awarded an injury time penalty to Medeama which enabled the home side snatch a late 2-1 victory.
However, Coach Akonnor in response denied vehemently he misconducted himself as had been claimed in media reports.

“I was shocked when I read that story.
I am a professional and I have been in this career for so long and I know how things work so why will I fight with a referee just because my team lost a match?
“In fact, it was one of the worst news reports I have read about myself and I want to distance myself from it because it is never true that I attacked the man when I was standing afar when the incident happened,” he told the Graphic Sports yesterday.
Medeama opened the scoring through Justice Blay before Ashgold’s Roland Djodji ensured parity to end the first half 1-1.
With just a minute to end regulation time, Ashgold goalie, George Owu, punched the ball straight into the hands of his defender and referee Bulu was left with no other choice but to award a spot kick, which Medeama midfielder Kwasi Donsu expertly converted to hand his side a late victory that shot them to the third position on the league log, one point behind leaders Ashgold on 17 points.
