According to the former Black Stars skipper, the courtesy call was to personally invite the Osu Mantse to the two-leg matches which comes off on June 8 at the Baba Yara Stadium and on June 11 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

He told Nii Dowuona that he would lead a group of international footballers to play Kumasi Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and the Black Stars of Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.

"I thank you for the warm welcome and acceptance to help me promote peace and unity among Ghanaians before, during and after the elections.

"We have one nation and one people. We have no place to go, so we must all remain united before, during and after the elections.

“Football as we know unites us and as such it motivated my decision to promote peace before, during and after election 2016," he said.

Nii Dowuona, who doubles as the President of Osu Traditional Council, said: "I know through football we can educate all to understand that it's just an election and not a war.

"Appiah has our full support and we are ready in any way we can to help prevent the unwanted (war) and promote peace and unity. We should not be divided by our political colours and affiliations."
