Ashgold won’t accept a raw deal - Fianoo

Ashgold are spoiled for a real fight with the Ghana Football Association(GFA) as they get set to appeal a decision that has  declared them losers of their FA Cup quarter-final duel with Kumasi Asante Kotoko, insisting they will pursue every means to secure justice.

The CEO of the club, Kudjoe Fianoo, told the Graphic Sports yesterday that Ashgold would pursue justice to FIFA and even at the courts if the need arose.

The Disciplinary Committee of the GFA last Tuesday gave Kotoko a walk over in  their ill-fated MTN/FA Cup quarter-finals match against Ashgold following the refusal of the miners to honour the match after the organisers had moved the original venue from the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to the Accra Sports Stadium following Kotoko’s ban from using the venue for their home games.

Ashgold had argued that the decision to shift the venue of the match from Kumasi would add to their financial burden and they carried through their threat to boycott the match.

Fianoo stated that Ashgold would not allow the FA to hand them a raw deal and urged the soccer controlling body to brace themselves up for a long fight.

He wondered how the Disciplinary Committee took the decision without reference to the issues that led to the boycott.

“There was no doubt that the match was heading for trouble given the disagreements that emerged after the change of venue”, Fianoo stated.

He argued that in recent times the FA had acted in a way that ensured that opponents of teams that were banned did not suffer unduly due to changes in venues.

He said, for instance, when Aduana were banned from playing at Dormaa, the FA found it convenient to shift the venue to the Sunyani Coronation Park when they played Kotoko.

“This has been the practice, why should this change when it involves Ashgold,” Fianoo queried.
