Attram De Visser crowned maiden Democracy Youth Cup champions after dominant final win
Attram De Visser Soccer Academy produced a commanding performance to defeat JP FC 3-1 and clinch the maiden Democracy Youth Cup title at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park in Accra on Thursday.
The academy capped an outstanding run in the tournament with another polished display, sealing victory in front of a sizeable crowd of football enthusiasts, coaches, scouts and invited dignitaries who gathered for the final of the youth competition.
Their triumph earned them the ultimate prize of GHS10,000 in the tournament, which was organised to promote youth football development while encouraging civic awareness and discipline among young players.
Attram De Visser entered the final in confident form after dispatching Charity Stars 2-0 in the semi-finals. JP FC also impressed on their route to the decisive clash, overcoming Stari Third World 3-1 to secure their place in the final.
The championship encounter lived up to expectations as both sides displayed attacking football and technical quality, but Attram De Visser proved more clinical and composed in key moments to emerge deserved winners.
The competition formed part of activities under the broader Democracy Cup initiative, which seeks to combine sports with education on leadership, teamwork, discipline and democratic values among the youth.
Over the course of the tournament, participating teams showcased emerging football talent, tactical discipline and competitive spirit across the group and knockout stages, attracting attention from football stakeholders and talent scouts.
The event had earlier been officially launched by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Bernard Ahiafor, who performed the ceremonial kick-off at the opening ceremony earlier this week.
Clerk to Parliament Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror also addressed players and officials during the tournament, drawing parallels between football and democracy by emphasising the importance of unity, fair play, teamwork and discipline.
The competition also attracted notable football personalities, including former Sunderland player Gary Bennett, former Black Stars defender Yaw Acheampong and veteran Ghanaian coach J.E. Sarpong, who monitored players closely throughout the tournament as part of a talent identification exercise.
Organisers say the tournament is intended to create opportunities for young footballers to gain exposure while also using sport as a platform to promote positive social values and national development.
The maiden edition of the Democracy Youth Cup will officially conclude on Friday with a special exhibition match involving a 22-man select side chosen by Gary Bennett, Yaw Acheampong and Coach J.E. Sarpong. The select team will face runners-up JP FC at the La McDan AstroTurf Town Park.
