Atuahene dethrones Akanbi as new NCC chairman

The reign of Alhaji Moro Akanbi as chairman of the supporters wing of Accra Hearts of Oak, the National Chapters Committe (NCC), was last Saturday brought to an end as he was dethroned by the voceferous  Barima Atuahene at the NCC delegates conference held at the YMCA Hall in Accra.

Atuahene, chairman of the Greater Accra Regional Chapters Committee (RCC) ,polled 146 votes to emerge winner in the fiercely contested elections.

He was closely followed by Mohammed Alhassan, who polled 136 votes, while incumbent Alhaji Akanbi emerged a distant third with 104 votes.

 While congratulating Atuahene, Alhassan said he could have given the winner a tougher challenge had delegates from the Eastern Region taken part in the congress.

 About 153 out of the 178 Chapters across the country, showed up at the congress.

Other officers elected were Lawrence Ofosu Adjare, the new first vice chairman, who stood unopposed for the positon, while Maxwell Yaw Adu-Asabere who polled 136 votes lost to Vicentia Deku, who polled 236 votes to become the new second vice chairperson. Vicentia is the president of the Hearts Ladies Club.

Madam Gifty Addy won the race for the financial secretary with 243 votes ahead of Joel Armah, who had 128 votes, while Nathaniel Dodoo with 195 also beat incumbent Eddie Palmer who secured 177 to the General Secretary role.
