Beach handball: Ghana in Togo for world qualifiers

A section of the players shortly before depatureThe national beach handball team are in Lome, Togo, to participate in the world beach handball qualifiers.

Also vying for the two slots in the global competition are Togo, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Sierra Leone, Niger and Nigeria.

The competition, which started last Thursday, would decide which country represents the West Africa sub-region in next year’s world beach handball championship in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The 14-man Ghanaian contingent is being led by the vice chairman of the Handball Association of Ghana (HAG), Nortey Dowuona, national team coach, George Bankole and secretary general, Nasiru Yakubu.

Dowuona expressed optimism about the team’s capability to qualify for the world competition saying:‘’We are well prepared and we will go the full length  to ensure our qualification”.

He stated that though the team had limited financial support, they were unfazed by the challenge ahead.

Ghana’s squad boasts of players such as Eugene Ahowi, Kelvin Kumah, Abu Mohammed, Agyenim-Boateng, Joseph Mba and Alex Asare.
