Police arrest 79 in Christmas operations across Tema and Eastern regions
The Ghana Police Service has arrested 79 suspects during coordinated intelligence-based operations carried out in the Tema and Eastern regions as part of stepped-up security measures during the Christmas season.
The police announced on its Facebook page on Sunday that 38 suspects were arrested during operations at Prampram, Tema Newtown, Sege and Kpong in the Tema Region.
In a separate post, the police said 41 suspects were picked up during targeted operations at Nkwatia, Nkawkaw, Kwahu Tafo, Saafi, Trado, Kotoso, Effiduase, Nteso, Somanya, Krobo Odumase and Juaben in the Eastern Region.
Both exercises were described by the Service as “Christmas Special Operations” and were aimed at reducing criminal activity during the festive period, when incidents of crime are known to rise.
Photographs released by the police showed groups of suspects in custody, together with items believed to have been retrieved during the operations.
The items included suspected narcotics, mobile phones, scissors, plastic containers with substances and other materials.
The police did not provide details of the specific offences the suspects are alleged to have committed.
Police commands in other parts of the country have carried out related operations in recent days.
On December, 13, 2025, seven suspects were arrested in Cape Coast in connection with narcotics and gaming machines.
In Paga, four suspects were arrested on December 18, 2025, with jackpot gaming machines and suspected Indian hemp. On the same day, eight suspects were detained in Navrongo with tramadol tablets.
All the suspects remain in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
