The Head Coach of  the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren has emphasized his commitment to long-term development as he prepares for his first official match with the team.

Ghana will face Morocco at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca today (February 21) at 5 pm, before taking on AS FAR Rabat three days later.

These matches are part of the senior women’s national team’s preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), set to take place in Morocco in July.

Björkegren explained that the primary goal for Friday’s match is to refine key principles and focus on long-term progress.

“Morocco is a strong team with great talent. Playing away will be tough, especially with our new coaching staff and players. However, our focus is on long-term development, learning from our mistakes, and preparing for the summer tournament. We’re working hard to win, but we’re also keeping the bigger picture in mind,” he said.

On the adaptation process, Björkegren noted: “It takes time for players to adjust to new systems, and we can't expect them to grasp everything in just a few training sessions. That said, the players are attentive, working hard, and doing their best. I’m pleased with their efforts and dedication to learning.”

The Swedish coach is also committed to giving each player an opportunity to showcase their abilities as the team looks ahead to a brighter future.

“It's essential to give all players a chance to showcase their abilities. We need to balance short-term and long-term goals, focusing on building for the future. I want to see all players participate in both games and training sessions, ensuring everyone gets a chance to demonstrate their potential.,” he said.
