Black Spider eyes WBA Pan African and Commonwealth Silver crowns on New Year’s Day
Ghanaian super flyweight prospect Michael “Black Spider” Abban will ring in 2026 with a high-profile showdown against Tanzania’s Muhsin Kizota, contesting the vacant WBA Pan African and Commonwealth Silver titles on January 1 at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
The 22-year-old southpaw, who holds a professional record of 12 wins and one loss, is aiming to strengthen his standing in the super flyweight division with victory in the international dual-title bout.
Abban, who recently captured the Commonwealth Youth super flyweight title, said he is in top condition ahead of the encounter.
“I’m in prime condition and fully prepared for this challenge,” Abban told Graphic Sports. “I’ve studied Kizota closely and know his style inside out. He’ll be minced meat on January 1.”
Trained by Ebenezer Adjei, popularly known as “Coach Killer”, Abban said he is ready for whatever the Tanzanian brings into the ring.
“I’ve already claimed the Commonwealth Youth title, and my sights are set on bigger fights, like against Britain’s Charlie Edwards for the WBC International belt,” he added. “Kizota will be no match for me.”
Kizota, a seasoned campaigner with a record of 22 wins and six losses, including 13 knockouts, is expected to pose a stern test for the rising Ghanaian star.
Abban fights under the Landmark Boxing Promotions banner, which has produced talents such as Isaac Ekpor, Habib Mohammed and Raphael Mensah, and he is keen to add further prestige to the stable with a strong start to the new year.
The New Year’s Day event at the historic Bukom Boxing Arena is expected to attract a passionate crowd, ushering in 2026 with top-level boxing action in Ghana’s traditional boxing heartland.
