Acknowledging how African football has made giant strides during the 17-year reign of Blatter as head of football’s world governing body, the GFA boss expressed shock at the decision last Tuesday of the Swiss to step down but maintained that the next FIFA president must be committed to the good work Blatter championed for African football.

“We will want somebody who will pursue and continue with the work of Blatter, we wont support anybody who will come and turn back the clock of progress,” Mr Nyantakyi told the Graphic Sports in Accra yesterday.
A member of CAF’s Executive Committee, Mr Nyantakyi eulogised the Swiss for ensuring the growth of the African game.
“Blatter had a lot of good plans for Ghana and the continent of Africa as a whole and so his exit has been very suprising and disappointing.”
Mr Nyantakyi did not mince words on the fact that some invincible forces were working against the Swiss but stressed that Ghana would want Blatter’s successor to be somebody who would pursue the work he (Blatter) started.
Sharing his views on events leading to the sudden changes at the helm of affairs at the world football governing body, the GFA chief said it would be premature to link what had transpired to the Russia and Qatar bids to host the next World Cup respectively because the issues were still being investigated.
Commenting on the arrest of the seven FIFA officials just before the FIFA Congress in Switzerland, he commended the United States of America (USA) for showing much interest in the game of football but advised them to be fair to all.
