Boxing: Isaac Dogboe accepts Magdaleno rematch

WBO super bantamweight champion, Isaac "Royal Storm" Dogboe, has agreed to fight Mexican-American Jessie Magdaleno in a rematch in his first defence after snatching the world title from the Mexican on April 28 in Philadephia, Pennsylvania.

Dogboe (19-0, 13 KOs), who was responding to a call by Magdaleno (25-1, 18 KOs) for a rematch in August, however, admitted that the fight could only take place should promoters of both boxers, Top Rank and ESPN, agree.

The 23-year-old Ghanaian champion defied all odds to register a deserved 11th-round technical-knockout victory over Magdaleno on April 28 to become Ghana's eighth world champion.

A month after the loss, Magdaleno took to Instagram to ask Dogboe for a rematch, promising to get back his title and stating that Dogboe could never beat him at his best.

"Where are you? Let's get this rematch; you and I know you can't really beat me at my best," Magdaleno posted on Instagram.

But in a quick response, Dogboe did not hesitate in accepting Magdaleno’s call and predicted doom for the former champion, though the fight is yet to be confirmed.

The undefeated Dogboe wrote on Instagram: "Listen Ex-Champ! Don't Flatter Yourself @elpeligrosojmag . I think you're a great fighter, but there's a NEW CHAMP on the block. If @espn and @trboxing want it, why not? YOU CAN BE MY FIRST DEFENCE. I'm A Young Man On A Mission. From The Land Of The Brave. #WarriorOfAfrica #IsaacDogboe #AndTheNew #WarriorOfAfrica".

It is, however, unclear whether Top Rank will be interested in seeing two of its signees slugging it out, especially when both boxers are being promoted by the US-based promotion firm owned by Bob Arum.
