Bring back SESSA Games — IGP appeals

The Inspector General of Police, Mr John Kudalor, has appealed to the Ministry of the Interior to reinstitute the Security Services Sports Association (SESSA) Games as it has proved to be a fertile ground for discovering promising athletes for Ghana sports.

According to the IGP, the absence of the SESSA Games had contributed to the dwindling fortunes of Ghana sports, and as such its revival could hand a lifeline to sports development, given the quality of sportsmen and sportswomen the competition had unearthed and groomed in the past.

The IGP made the appeal last Friday when the service honoured its sportsmen and sports women who had excelled and brought glory and success through their endeavours.

While appealing to the Interior Ministry, whose head, Mr Prosper Bani, was the guest of honour at the event, the IGP also said the police service was going to develop its sports complex at the Tesano Sports College, to help groom more national stars, as well as to reflect its enviable record as the most successful sports team in Ghana.

In all, five police sports teams were honoured and they received plaques, citations as well as decorative medals for their feat.

The male and female handball teams, volleyball team, tennis team and the Police Ladies football team were all honoured for excelling, both at home and in the international competitions they participated in.
