Chelsea step up chase for Baba Rahman

English Premier League champions, Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of left back Baba Rahman.

Chelsea have made a formal bid of €15 million to get the Ghana left-back from Augsburg according to the Daily Mirror.

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he wants to strengthen his squad for next season with a few signings in key areas to increase competition, and Rahman, who had an impressive season in the German Bundesliga as well as with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, is high on his must-get list.

The player's agent, Sascha Empasher, travelled to London last Wednesday to meet with Chelsea and it is likely the talks were around increasing the bid to €20 million, the price being demanded by Augsburg, who secured the player for €4.5million last season. Chelsea face competition from Juventus for Baba, but they are trying to close the deal before the Bianconeri.

If the Blues are already offering that sort of cash for the left back, there's little reason to believe that they'll lose out to Juventus, who just can't offer anything approaching the sort of wages that Chelsea can, even after the Bianconeri reached the Champions League final.
