Coach: Black Bombers gain valuable experience at World Championships

The Head Trainer of Ghana's national amateur boxing team, Kwasi Ofori Asare, has hailed their participation at the International Boxing Association Men's World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, as a valuable learning experience that will enhance the boxers' preparation for next year's African Games in Accra, Ghana.

Coach Asare expressed his satisfaction with the performance of the six Ghanaian boxers who competed in the championship and indicated his optimism about securing more medals in the future.

Ghana presented six boxers for the world championship, namely Joseph Commey, Abdul Wahid Omar, Abraham Mensah, Alfred Kotey, Amadu Mohammed and Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey.

Mohammed was the team’s best performer at the championship after reaching the quarterfinals in his maiden appearance on the world stage.

Assessing the team’s achievement at the championship, Coach Asare praised the performance of the team on their first appearance at the world championship.

“It was an eye-opener for most of the boys and I am very glad that they have gained a lot of exposure for participating in the world championship.

“I believe it was a successful competition for us because most of the boxers that we lost to ended up as gold medallists so you could clearly tell that they were extremely good opponents,” he said.

The Black Bombers now aim to build on their success by participating in the Africa Boxing Championship later this year, further preparing themselves for the 13th African Games scheduled for March 2024
