Crentsil’s fate in a balance

The next few weeks ahead of the voting day for the upcoming Executive Committee elections look crucial for Ghana Football Association (GFA) vice president, Fred Crentsil, as he and the club on whose ticket he is contesting on, Techiman City FC, race against time to have their demotion overturned.

Last Friday, Crentsil and the other candidates were cleared by the election committee to contest in the elections, but his fate has been left hanging following the Ethics Committee 's ruling to demote his club for their complexity in a bribery scandal.

Techiman City together with Wa African United, were demoted by the Ethics Committee of the GFA, charged with conniving to fix a league match in the ongoing  DOL, but  the president of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim, aka Micky Charles, told the Graphic Sports that Crentsil would not be affected and he remained eligible to contest.

Apart from the Premier League and the DOL, all the other divisions can only vote in the Regional Football Associations elections, thus leaving Crentsil's fate in doubt as per the ruling of the Ethics Committee and Article 5 and 6 of the GFA Regulations, he can contest.

However, his club insist he will not be affected and will be good to contest come September 29 as they are confident of winning their appeal filed against their demotion

"We have filed a stay of execution as well as an appeal against the Ethic Committee's ruling and we are hopeful that the Appeals Committee will sit and determine the case before the election on September 29," Ntim told the Graphic Sports.

He also cleared the doubts surrounding Crentsil's eligibility to stand on the ticket of the club, explaining that the former Accra Hearts of Oak Chief Executive had been associated with the club even when they were known as B.A Stars.

"It's unfortunate that people have raised issues with Crentsil's eligibility to contest on the ticket of Techiman City. He has been a director of the club for over three years, however, he decided to keep a low profile until now. There are documents to show, and he was cleared by the Election Committee so that is not in doubt at all," Ntim explained.
