Defensive frailties cost Kotoko — Coach Obeng
Assistant coach of Asante Kotoko, Hamza Obeng, has attributed his side’s recent defeat to Dreams FC to a lack of concentration in defence.
The Porcupine Warriors suffered a 2-0 loss last Sunday, a result that further derailed their title ambitions in the ongoing league campaign.
Kotoko now sit ninth on the league table with 43 points after 30 matches, a disappointing position for one of Ghana’s most decorated clubs.
The defeat adds to what has been a difficult season for the club, which earlier parted ways with head coach Abdul Karim Zito midway through the campaign due to poor performance.
Speaking after the match, Obeng pointed to lapses in concentration at the back as the key factor behind the loss. He explained that the defensive unit struggled with organisation, which ultimately cost the team.
“There was a bit of lack of concentration at the backline and that is where we had the problem. There was disorganisation and we were not able to find the right line to properly organise ourselves,” he said.
Despite the setback, the assistant coach remains focused on improving the team’s performance. He emphasised that the technical team will address the defensive issues in training as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
“In our coming games, that is what we are going to work on, especially making the necessary corrections on the training ground. We want to ensure that we are better organised defensively and come back stronger,” Obeng added.
