The day featured spirited competitions in football, volleyball, and E-sports, as teams from DTRT’s Tema and Accra branches faced off in friendly but intense matches.
The football tournament emerged as a highlight, with players exhibiting high levels of sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Volleyball brought its own excitement, with players showing finesse through strategic serves and powerful blocks.
Meanwhile, the E-sports corner was alive with rapid gameplay as participants competed and shared new techniques in the virtual realm.
Founded on a principle of social responsibility, DTRT prides itself on offering a workplace that is inclusive and supportive, especially in an industry often challenged by labor issues.
Skip Richmond, Founder and Co-CEO, emphasized the importance of employee appreciation days like Sports Day, saying, “Life is not easy. Work is not easy, but we have to take the time to celebrate and enjoy ourselves. Through sports, teamwork is built, and getting out of the office or factory to work together builds relationships, allowing us to be more of a family.” Richmond added that the company, which employs around 5,000 Ghanaians—70% of whom are women—also values its contributions to the nation’s sports community.
“In the past year, we’ve supported Ghana’s women’s football team and plan to continue doing so, as sports remains a way for us to give back,” he said.

DTRT has grown significantly in recent years, tripling its workforce and expanding its manufacturing capabilities to serve prestigious global brands. Richmond shared his optimism about the future, highlighting recent geopolitical shifts as factors encouraging apparel brands to source from West Africa.
“The whole industry is looking at West Africa, and we’re showing that Ghana can be globally competitive,” he stated, noting that the company expects to triple in size over the next five years.
Wasantha Perera, DTRT's President of Global Manufacturing, echoed these sentiments, stressing that employee welfare is a priority for the company’s long-term success.
“Our greatest asset is our people. Today is about making them happy, fostering teamwork, and creating a positive atmosphere that reflects back into our business,” Perera said. He further revealed that plans are underway for DTRT to expand product offerings and support the growth of Ghana’s apparel industry.

DTRT's commitment to its employees extends beyond team events. Entry-level staff earn twice the statutory minimum wage, and the company provides transportation, meals, and medical support, while also investing in local talent through training programs. “DTRT stands for ‘Do the Right Thing,’ and we mean that,” said Richmond. “This industry can make a positive impact on people’s lives, and our goal is to create opportunities here in Ghana that are globally competitive.”
The day concluded with awards ceremonies, music, and a celebration of DTRT’s accomplishments and growth. Marc Hansult, Co-Founder and Group Co-CEO, reflected on DTRT’s journey from a small company to a leader in West Africa’s apparel sector. “For me, seeing the family we’ve built over the years is incredibly special. We are optimistic about the future, and we believe this is just the beginning for us as a business.”
