Fired-up Miledzi calls out Whittaker, eyes Commonwealth glory
Ghana’s hard-hitting light heavyweight, Delali Miledzi, has declared his intent to storm the global stage by the end of the year, with a tilt at the Commonwealth title and a dream showdown with Olympic silver medallist Ben Whittaker topping his wish list.
The 31-year-old former national, West Africa and WBA Africa champion is riding an electric wave of form, having gone unbeaten in his last 13 fights since suffering his only professional loss to Namibia’s Paulinus Ndjolonimu in a WBO Africa super middleweight title clash in Windhoek back in October 2022.
That setback has only fuelled Miledzi’s hunger and transformation. Since then, he has gone unbeaten, with 12 wins and a draw in a stunning comeback stretch that has seen him dominate opponents across the sub-region.
This year, Miledzi has been on an absolute tear, making a statement with four consecutive knockouts — all before the halfway mark of the bouts.
With renewed determination, Miledzi is tearing through opponents with brutal efficiency. Last Saturday night in Lomé, Togo, he stopped fellow Ghanaian Mohammed Akrong in just four rounds, making it four wins from four in 2025 — all by knockout.
It was a clinical follow-up to his previous wins over Nigeria’s Naimou Aziz Samson (fifth-round stoppage at Dansoman), Malian southpaw Aboubacar Traore (fourth-round TKO in Aflao), and Benin’s Justin Hounkpevi, who suffered the first defeat of his career on May 17 in Togo.
The confident Ghanaian, who has 14 fights under his belt believes he is ready to step onto the elite stage and face the division’s biggest names. “I think I’m ready for bigger challenges,” Miledzi told the Graphic Sports after his latest victory.
“My immediate targets are the elite in the Commonwealth light heavyweight division. Zach Parker, Anthony Yarde, and last but not least, Ben Whittaker — I want to take them all down.”
His sights are firmly set on Whittaker, the flashy British boxer who claimed silver at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and currently holds the IBF International title, with the Ghanaian seeking to announce himself on the world stage.
His confidence is well earned. In 2024, he chalked up seven straight wins, including three against international opponents and two in Togo.
That campaign saw him renew ties with his long-time manager, Anthony Kermah, and secure a major win over former national champion and seasoned contender, Ishmael Tetteh, to claim the WBA Africa middleweight belt at Bukom Boxing Arena, Accra.
Having first captured the national super middleweight title in 2018 and added the WABU belt in 2019, Miledzi now believes the time is ripe to chase global glory.
“I’m grateful to my manager and technical team for always being there and guiding me to this level,” he said. “I’m ready to fight the big boys. Winning the Commonwealth title is the next step, and I’m coming for it,” he stressed.
