FOX Sports signs $ 24 m sponsorship with WAFU
Fox Sports, a subsidiary of FOX network groups, last Friday signed a $24 million agreement with the West Africa Football Union (WAFU) to revitalise the union and its activities within the sub region.
The 12- year- partnership is expected to lead to massive investment in infrastructure, training and development of youth, as well as female football, seminar and capacity building programmes for referees among others, across the West African sub region.
The Executive Vice President of FOX Networks Group, (Europe and Africa), Adam Theiler, told the Daily Graphic that the partnership was meant to accelerate the development of West African football and make it more attractive to fans in the sub region in particular and the world at large".
He said the extension of the partnership to 12 years was to sustain in- building value over time to ensure that players matured adequately enough to play to the highest level.
The president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, who signed as the president of the WAFU zone B, said having many competitions would offer a lot of opportunities for players in the sub region.
He said WAFU had not been active in recent times due to lack of sponsorship, and was therefore hopeful that the support from Fox sports would provide opportunities and improve standards of play in the respective countries.
