G/A goalball championships today

The Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority (GARSA), in collaboration with the sports wing of the Ghana Blind Union, will organise the first-ever Regional Sports Authority Blind Sports Nucleus Team Championships (Goalball Championship) at the Tennis Court of the Accra Sports Stadium today from 9:00a.m–4:00p.m.

The championships, solely sponsored by the Greater Accra Regional Sports Authority, involves four goalball teams, comprising two male and two female teams from Accra Metro and the University of Ghana.  

According to a statement signed by the acting Director of GARSA, Mr Kwame Amponfi Jnr, a total of 24 visually- impaired athletes and four officiating officials will participate in the event.

The purpose of the event is to raise formidable regional male and female nucleus goalball teams to prepare towards effective participation in national and international competitions such as the National Unity Games.

The directorate also intends to use the platform to create awareness of goalball as an emerging sporting discipline for persons with disability in the Greater Accra Region.

Very attractive cash prizes are at stake for the winning Goalball teams in both male and female categories.
